We’re commissioning a new Shack for Brainchild Festival 2019

Another year, another great Shack.

Calling all talented Design, Architecture and Engineering students or recent graduates to submit an expression of interest to design The Shack DJ stage at Brainchild Festival 2019.

Art Installation Open Call – We’re also inviting visual artists, makers, set-designers, architects, engineers, sculptors, designers and craftspeople to propose an art installation for this year’s festival. Find out more here.

We’re inviting you to submit an expression of interest to create a temporary outdoor stage structure for Brainchild Festival’s 7th year, this summer 2019.

The Shack has always been the heart of dance music at Brainchild, with DJs playing everything from tropical to garage, house, afrobeat, techno, broken beat and more. It’s become a much-loved place where illustration, installation art, architecture and electronic music all combine, be it in relaxed daytime DJ sets or late night dancing.

Nearly every year, Brainchild Festival has had a new and entirely new and bespoke Shack. It has evolved from a marquee tent to an anamorphic-like pink scaffold and polycarbonate structure to most recently a giant mesh archway. Now in our 7th year, we are looking to open up the opportunity for young designers to carry The Shack’s legacy forward with the design and build of a new structure

If you’re interested in designing and building this year’s Shack, full details on the commission and what to include in your expression of interest can be found here.

Please send expressions of interest in a PDF format to yoyo@brainchildfestival.co.uk (YoYo) with the email heading ‘SHACK OPEN CALL:’ followed by the lead applicant’s name.

Deadline for expressions of interest is Thursday 21st February 2019, 6pm. Submissions received after this time will not be considered.

Please get in touch with YoYo if you have any questions and/or issues accessing the PDF.

NB: The PDF should be no more than 5MB. As mentioned the portfolio should be no more than 10 A4 sides.
