Submissions are open for our first ever digital Hatch!

If you’re a performer looking to share work-in-progress we’d love to hear from you!

Call Out Info

Hatch is a Brainchild event focused on new ideas and works in progress. In these challenging circumstances, we have adapted our regular mixed bill to a digital format. We’ll be hosting six short performances of early-stage works in an online broadcast, with the aim of encouraging audience feedback and new creative connections.

We’re looking for innovative theatre, cabaret, comedy, poetry, performance art and everything in between – anyone willing to take risks and try something new. Your submission can be a brand new idea that you’d like to get on it’s feet, or something you’ve been developing for a while that you think would benefit from constructive audience feedback. At this moment, we’re particularly interested in submissions that respond to or experiment with the digital format and that find creative ways to engage audiences actively in participation from their homes.

So far, we’ve helped lots of artists launch exciting new projects – so if you’re looking for support, an audience and to be part of a wider creative community, please get in touch.

How do I submit an idea?

If you’re interested in performing as part of the upcoming Hatch event please fill out this submission form by midday on Friday 15th May. If you have trouble linking or uploading to the form send material to india@brainchildfestival.co.uk and please get in touch if you have any questions.

How will it work?

If your submission is chosen, we will be asking you to record your 10 minute piece from your home – don’t worry if you’re not tech savvy, our team will support you to do this. We will then bring everyone’s work together in a digital broadcast, with a live-streamed host to guide the audience through what they’re seeing and encourage them to respond, via an online form, to the feedback questions you provide.

When will it be?

Our first digital Hatch will take place 7.30pm, Thursday 4th June 2020 and it will be streamed via Brainchild platforms.

What are we looking for?

  • Six different acts, 10 minutes each in length
  • Innovative theatre, cabaret, comedy, poetry, performance art and everything in between – anyone willing to take risks and try something new.
  • At this moment, we’re particularly interested in submissions that respond to or experiment with the digital format and that find creative ways to engage audiences actively in participation from their homes.
  • We’re often drawn to work that is interdisciplinary or hard to define
  • Work that could become part of the wider Brainchild programme, including at the 2021 festival – we’re always on the lookout for exciting new ideas and to build relationships with emerging creators
  • We’re interested in work that is socially engaged and tackles challenging subjects

What’s the offer?

  • Support to produce a good quality recording of your work
  • A 10 minute performance slot in our digital Hatch event
  • Collated feedback from the audience of the event
  • Advice/support from the Brainchild team on next stages for your work including bespoke publicity and networking

Although we can’t offer payment to artists for performing, our aim is to assist in your creative process, connect you with an audience of creative peers and provide an environment that will spark ideas.

Accessibility has always been a priority – there will be no paywall for the online event, only a suggested donation, and the income generated allows us to cover the basic costs of the delivering the event.
