Strange Fruit is a tribute to Sarah Baartman and her daughters. To all the black women, sexualised, eroticised, fetishised, used, abused and exploited. It is inspired by great artists such as Billie Holiday, Lucille Bogan, Josephine Baker, Betty Davis and Grace Jones. All women who transgressed and subverted racial and sexual stereotypes, who defied the odds to rise as pioneers of politics and of pleasure.
It is a romp through the last century, celebrating these women who broke barriers, challenging the way black women were expected to be seen and heard. A homage to the boldest, bravest, ‘badass bitches’ who dared to do things their way.
Featuring: Miss Baby Sol (aka Kitten Lightfoot), Black Venus, Mars, Donna Divine & Sabrina Jade
SEX AND RAGE is an organisation led by sex workers, educators and activists. They resist stigma and shame as the main causes of sexual and gender-based violence, and aim to make social change through sex education. Their work explores the intersections between sex workers rights and those of women, sexual minorities and marginalised communities, and offer events and workshops that engage in dialogue, creativity and embodied practices as a way to empower individuals and communities living in oppressive systems.
And if you’re feeling fired up and filthy after the Cabaret, Sex & Rage have got you, darling. Carrying on the debauchery after the show, they’re going to party like it’s 1979 at their Studio 54 club night with funk, soul and disco all night long!
