Demae (Touching Bass)

Life Works Out… Usually is the fruit of Demae’s years spent absorbing London’s culture and musical identity, as well as singing with Fatima or as part of hiphop trio Hawk House. It’s a coolly assured debut from an artist with an incredible voice and flow. Demae sings of joyous experiences, growth and empowerment as a Black woman in turbulent times. The words are her story, the pages are soulful, contemplative beats from the likes of Eun (Ego Ella May), Jake Milliner (Slum Village) or 104.ROG. Life Works Out… Usually channels the unique London sound world, full of colour, earworm hooks and earthy, nu jazz production.

Demae was previously one-third of hip-hop adventurists, Hawk House, whose introspective, eclectic style was reshuffling the rule book for UK-based rap, quickly making them one of the UK’s most exciting emerging sounds and earning fans from Mac Miller and Ghostpoet to Wretch 32 and Jill Scott.

Touching Bass’ relationship with Demae runs deep (having met each other back in 2012) making the label the perfect home as they continue to prise open a distinct, exciting lane for themselves as a stable for forward-thinking, soulful music.

We feel blessed beyond belief to have her come down with the TB crew, its gonna be a happy beautiful time for sure. 💜💟
